In response to the 2020 pandemic, the California DMV has opened and added services to a virtual DMV online office allowing Californians dozens of opportunities to accomplish a list of common DMV business tasks without being required to visit a physical DMV field office. The DMV virtual field office now includes driver license renewals, duplicate driver licenses and some driver license extensions, vehicle title transfers, duplicate titles, registration renewals, and commercial driver medical certificates, with more digital options coming. The virtual site allows customers to upload documents, provide an e-signature if required, and pay associated fees with an e-check. Users will be able to follow up with more complex active DMV cases online.
